I do many things to develop a community of writers. One thing is posting a question on the Forum page on my Moodle. The kids love reading each other's responses. They will spend hours responding to each other in the evenings. They get into huge arguments about books and book characters. Their favorites are discussions about Harry Potter books and the Warriors books. Another thing I do is peer editing in their writing. The kids have clock partners to help with the editing. They must always have at least one peer editor to help with their writing before I see the writing. All of my students have a writer notebook. They write almost daily...of course...depending on time. Time is always a major issue!

The kids do enjoy posting to one anothers comments. I would like to have the students interact more and maybe have a classroom blog .. hmmm thought to ponder.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in hearing more about Moodle. Our school district doesn't use it. But I can see how the students would really enjoy it. I love the fact that the kids are talking about book characters in your room-- how lucky they are to be in such a literacy rich environment!
